Generating the Future: Exploring the Possibilities and Pitfalls of Generative AI
With the release of generative models like ChatGPT and Dall-E, there has been an explosion of interest in generative AI. Their ability to generate high-quality content is revolutionizing the way we approach problem-solving and creativity in multiple domains. As educational specialists, these models are likely to have a lasting effect on the way in which we educate and assess students in the future. To understand these models better, this workshop intends to expose the participants to the inner workings of generative models; how they are designed, how they are trained, and how they generate text, images, and sound content. We will also discuss their limitations and what challenges they pose to equity as they become widely adopted.
Speaker: Christopher Michael Ormerod, Principal Mathematician, Cambium Assessment
Dr. Christopher Ormerod is a Principal Mathematician at Cambium Assessment, a leading provider of educational assessment solutions. He has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and is published in several areas of Mathematical Physics, Systems Biology, and Machine Learning. His most recent research concerns applications of Large Language Models to educational assessment and automated writing evaluation systems. He is primarily responsible for the design and development of the Cambium Assessments machine learning framework for automated scoring.
